Originally part of Woburn, Burlington was officially incorporated as a separate town in 1799. The town remained primarily agricultural until the mid-20th century when the construction of Route 128 spurred rapid industrial and economic expansion. Between 1955 and 1965, Burlington became the fastest-growing town in Massachusetts, tripling its population and transforming into a bustling hub of commerce and technology.
