Boston is known for its legendary Independence Day celebrations – from the five day Harborfest (one of the country’s largest 4th of July festivals) to the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. But if you don’t want to trek into the city to enjoy the festivities, we’ve got fireworks, parades and carnivals happening right across the week in the towns north of Boston. Here’s our realtor’s pick of the best local places to celebrate Independence Day!
Acton – The 4th of July Independence Day Celebration returns to NARA Park for 2024! Food, free music from Cars Tribute Band “Best Friend’s Girl” and fireworks at 9:30pm
Arlington - gather at Robbins Farm Park on 4th of July from 6pm for a free music concert followed by a broadcast of the Boston Pops concert and the fireworks live on the big screen!
Burlington – Burlington’s Independence Day parade takes place at 9:30 on July 4th –but get there early to stake your spot!
Chelmsford – the traditional Chelmsford Parade - one of the state’s biggest - is planned for the Fourth in the town. Warm up to the celebrations with The Lions Club Country Fair on July 3rd.
Concord – Join the 46th Annual Picnic in the Park from 11am – 4:30pm on the Fourth at Emerson Park. Bring a blanket and enjoy the children’s parade, live music and other family fun activities.
Harvard – Harvard Lions Club will host a fun-filled Independence Day celebration from 9am – 12pm, including antique cars, bike decorating, a parade and flag-raising.
Lexington – the annual Lexington Lions Club 4th of July Carnival is in town from July 3rd - 7th, with fireworks on evening of Friday, July 5th.
Lincoln – the town is hosting a day of celebration for 4th of July, including a Firecracker run, children’s bike parade, a cook out and a town-wide swim at Codman pool!
Sudbury – the Fourth of July Parade moves off from Chiswick Park at 1pm – expect floats and banners from the local community celebrating this year’s theme “Red, White and You – A Tribute to Sudbury”
Waltham – a fireworks display is set to go off from a barge in the Charles River at 9pm on June 30th- gather along the Moody Street Bridge or on the Riverwalk to watch.
Wilmington – The Fun on the Fourth celebration takes place from June 26th – 30th. The fun begins on Wednesday 26th with Wilmington Night, and the carnival opens at 5pm on Thursday 27th. The carnival continues through to Sunday, with live music every day and fireworks Saturday and Sunday evening.
