Our Realtors Recommend: February Break Fun in Boston & Beyond

February vacation is just around the corner, and if you’re planning a staycation right here in Boston and the surrounding towns, we’ve rounded up great ways to make the most of your time off together. Our local agents aren’t just experts on real estate — many are parents too — so we know how important fun, memorable outings can be (especially during winter break)! From snowy adventures to indoor exploration, there’s something for all ages. Be sure to check weather forecasts and book ahead where needed.

❄️ Snowy Adventures & Outdoor Fun

Snow Tubing & Winter Play

  • Ski Ward Ski Area (Shrewsbury): Great family tubing with multiple lanes and snowtubes provided on site (minimum 6 years old / 42″ tall). Winter TubaSlide runs weekends and holiday periods — tickets often sell out during school vacation weeks, so reserve early!
  • Nashoba Valley Snow Tubing Park (Littleton): One of New England’s largest tubing parks with up to 18 lanes, a lodge with snack bar, and advance online booking required. Same age/height requirements apply; weeks like Feb vacation are peak times so plan ahead.

Ice Fun & Winterland Experiences

  • Snowport at Boston Seaport: The waterfront transforms into a winter wonderland with free iceless curling lanes open through Feb 28, 2026 (reservations encouraged via the Seaport Insider app). Betty the Yeti makes seasonal appearances, and the area is alive with pop-ups and festive activities.

☃️ Seasonal Outdoor Programs & Parks

The Trustees of Reservations (various locations)
The Trustees properties across Metro West and greater Boston often host seasonal activities like guided walks, family yoga, and scavenger hunts — check their calendar specifically for February getaway week programs at places like deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum in Lincoln.

Walks & Nature Spots (weather permitting)

  • Middlesex Fells Reservation (Stoneham/Medford) — miles of trails to explore.
  • Minute Man National Historical Park (Concord/Lexington) — combine fresh air with local history.
  • Great Meadows (Concord) and Willard Woods (Lexington) — wide open spaces great for winter birdwatching and family hikes.
  • In the city, Boston Common & Public Garden or a stroll along the Rose Kennedy Greenway are classic outdoor experiences (with Frostival events happening into March).

🐾 Animal Encounters All Year Round

Stone Zoo (Stoneham) & Franklin Park Zoo (Boston)
Both zoos are operated by Zoo New England and open year-round. Stone Zoo’s collection includes snow leopards and other favorites, while Franklin Park Zoo features hundreds of species across 72 acres. Advance ticket purchase is recommended during February school vacation week (Feb 14–22).

🎨 Indoor & Cultural Explorations

Kid-Friendly Museums

Local Museums With Activities

  • deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum (Lincoln): A beautiful outdoor sculpture park with rotating installations and occasional family programs such as yoga and art activities — check current schedules as events vary.
  • Concord Museum: Special seasonal family programming often running during school vacations — ideal for history buffs and curious kids.

🎉 Extra Seasonal Highlights Around Town

During February and into early March, Boston hosts Frostival events — including ice skating, a seasonal Ferris wheel on the Greenway, and more winter programming across the city. It’s a great way to enjoy downtown Boston’s winter charm.

Tips Before You Go

  • Book tickets ahead for popular attractions like snow tubing, zoo visits, and museum admissions.
